Dexter-Pinckney Road bridge over Portage Lake Canal to open Friday

By Cindy Heflin

The Dexter-Pinckney Road bridge over the Portage Lake Canal is scheduled to open at 1 p.m. Friday after a six-month closure for the construction of a new bridge, the Washtenaw County Road Commission says.

The canal runs between Portage Lake and Little Portage Lake near Livingston County. The road has been closed since March 15.

The Road Commission got a grant from the Local Bridge Program, administered by the Michigan Department of Transportation, to pay for most of the project. It had an estimated cost of $1,383,000, and the grant covered 95 percent of the cost. The Road Commission funded the rest.

Who funded the wrong precast parts and the delay?
