Dexter school board chooses Interim Superintendent Mary Marshall to lead district
Editor's note: This article has been updated with additional information from school board President Larry Cobler.
The board voted unanimously Monday night to begin negotiations on a contract with her as the district's superintendent, school board President Larry Cobler said. Marshall has been serving as interim superintendent in Dexter schools since former Superintendent Robert Glass left last July to become superintendent of Bloomfield Hills Schools.
Cobler said Marshall is currently making $135,000 a year, the amount Glass was making when he left. He anticipates the negotiated contract will be for the same amount and will run through June of 2013.
The board had hired the Michigan Leadership Institute to help in its search for a new leader.
"After reviewing 22 applicants from Michigan and other states, it was clear that Mary had the knowledge, skills, and vision to lead Dexter Schools through the challenging times and to implement the strategic direction that has been set," Cobler said in a press release.
Cobler said Marshall has been with the district for 16 or 17 years, and before being named interim superintendent was serving as assistant superintendent under Glass.

This comes as no surprise to those who have close ties to the District. I wish them well with their choice.
