Dexter Village Council supports Small Business Saturday on Nov. 26
The Dexter Village Council unanimously approved a resolution of support for Small Business Saturday, which is planned for Nov. 26. Small Business Saturday was created last year by American Express “in response to small business owners’ most pressing need - creating more demand for their products and services,” said Paula Palmer Burns, president of the Dexter Area Chamber, said in a letter to the Village Council.
In fact, a new Winter Festival has been planned downtown.
“The Winter Festival will include downtown festivities such as pictures with Santa, tree lighting, retailers’ window decorating contests, prize drawings and dining and shopping specials,” the letter states.
Abby Erickson, executive director of the Dexter Area Chamber of Commerce, said the Dexter Area Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring the new event from 1-7 p.m. with the tree lighting taking place in Monument Park at 5 p.m.
“It’s going to be a great way to kick off the holiday season,” Erickson said in an e-mail.
The proclamation states that the Village Council will support “efforts to promote economic development within the community and to support our local businesses and the Dexter Area Chamber of Commerce.”
It also states that the council will “support and encourage residents and visitors to support local and support Small Business Saturday.”
