Referendum on Dexter cityhood set for May

By Cindy Heflin

Residents within the proposed boundaries of what would be the City of Dexter will vote on whether to proceed with the cityhood process in May, Dexter Patch reported.

Those eligible to vote in the May 7 election include residents of the current Village of Dexter and residents of the parts of Scio and Webster townships within the boundaries of the proposed city.

If voters approve, the process continues, and a charter commission will be elected to write a city charter. If voters say no, the village will not become a city.

The village has been working toward cityhood for six years.
