“I don’t know what any of us will do without him, I really don’t,” Sue Koch told MLive, her voice breaking as she spoke about Michael, her husband of 25 years.

Koch, 48, of Jackson County's Columbia Township, died Monday from injuries suffered in an explosion at the Dexter Utilities Department. He and another contractor were working on a concrete lid of a tank at the wastewater treatment plant when a welder’s torch ignited methane gas and exploded. The other man, David McBride of Howell, is in stable condition.

Koch was a 1982 Dexter High School graduate and an employee of Platinum Mechanical, Inc., a plumbing contractor out of Flint.

Sue Koch said she initially was drawn to Koch because of his love for cars. The two married in 1988 and raised their four children together and frequently traveling.

Cole Funeral Chapel in Chelsea is handling the arrangements.
