Driver airlifted to University of Michigan Hospital after crash

By Cindy Heflin

The driver of a pickup truck was flown to University of Michigan Hospital in critical condition after crashing into a tree on Prospect Hill Road in Sharon Township.

The man was driving the truck south on Prospect Hill south of Below Road when it ran off the road and into the tree, said Manchester Township Fire Chief Bill Scully.

Firefighters had to cut the door of the pickup truck to get the man out of the truck and move him to the helicopter, Scully said. The driver was the only occupant of the truck.

State police are investigating the crash but said they could not provide any information Thursday afternoon. The driver’s age and place of residence were not available.

The crash occurred about 7:30 a.m. Prospect Hill Road is northwest of Manchester on the western edge of Washtenaw County.
