A driver led police on a high-speed chase around Washtenaw County late Friday before eventually being arrested after striking a sheriff's patrol car and another car with his vehicle, according to the Washtenaw County Sheriff's Department.
No injuries were reported, and the driver was taken to the county jail.
Sheriff's spokesman Derrick Jackson said a deputy was patrolling near Hamilton and Harriet streets in Ypsilanti at about 11:45 p.m. when a 2009 Ford Edge passed at a high rate of speed.
The deputy attempted to pull the driver over, but he sped off, Jackson said.
The vehicle fled onto westbound I-94, got on northbound US-23 and exited onto Washtenaw Avenue, Jackson said. The vehicle then got back onto northbound US-23, exited on Geddes Road and took Huron River Drive to Hogback Road, Jackson said.
The driver continued south on Hogback Road at a high rate of speed, Jackson said. Several cars were stopped at a red light at the intersection of Hogback Road and Washtenaw Avenue — near the Washtenaw County Sheriff's Department — and the fleeing vehicle struck one of the cars stopped at the light, Jackson said.
As deputies approached the vehicle, the driver attempted to maneuver his vehicle away, striking a deputy's patrol car several times, Jackson said. The fleeing driver's vehicle became inoperable at that point, and he was arrested, Jackson said.
The man was jailed pending charges, and no further details were available this evening.
