Driver critically injured in crash remains hospitalized

The driver critically injured in a crash in Scio Township Wednesday morning remained in the hospital in stable condition Friday morning, police said.
The 30-year-old man, a resident of the Toledo, Ohio, area, has head trauma and brain swelling but no broken bones, Washtenaw County sheriff’s Sgt. Geoffrey Fox said in email.
Two passengers who were injured have been released from the hospital.
The crash occurred shortly after 8 a.m. Friday when a southbound van stuck the car as its driver was trying to turn left out of the BP gas station on Zeeb Road just north of Interstate 94.
Traffic was backed up near the gas station, Fox said Wednesday, and one motorist tried to let the car out, but the driver apparently couldn’t see the southbound van in the other lane as he attempted to turn onto the northbound lanes of Zeeb.
All the occupants of the car were wearing seat belts, Fox said.

When they rebuilt that area it became a death zone. School buses have almost been hit in that area. They need a ton of round abouts there just to keep the speeds down. Sorry to hear about the guy. He'll be back on the road soon enough with a lesson learned.

A person was pulling out of McDonald's today to go northbound in a similar fashion. The traffic was much lighter, but they misjudged and were half into the left turn lane (southbound drivers had to swerve around them) and had to stop. Can't people wait a little bit, or judge safety better when pulling out? And if it isn't, it ought to be illegal to use left turn lanes as a "pause station" just so one can pull out before they should.

That part of Zeeb is bad place to drive let alone pull out...I hope the driver recovers soon!
