DTE Energy redesigns bills

By Ann Dwyer

It may not take away the sting, but at least it will now be easier to read your DTE Energy bill.

“Our customers told us they wanted our bills to be easier to read and to provide more details on their energy usage. We listened,” Joyce Hayes-Giles, DTE Energy’s senior vice president of customer service, said in a press release. “The new bill still provides all the account information customers need, but in clearer language and a less cluttered, more reader-friendly format.”

The new bill will now include a customized chart that illustrates each customer’s energy usage over a 13-month period.

Customers will also be able to see whether their bill was based on a reading or an estimate. A detailed breakdown of costs, including costs to generate energy or delivery charges, are listed. The bill will also direct customers to DTE's website, where they can find tips on how to bring down their energy costs.

DTE decided on the new design after conducting customer surveys and focus groups, along with comparing other utilities’ bills, according to the press release. Click here to see the redesigned bill.
