<p>The <a href="http://colleges.usnews.rankingsandreviews.com/best-colleges/rankings?int=30028b"><strong>U.S. News and World Report</strong></a> ranked the <a href="http://umich.edu"><strong>University of Michigan</strong></a> 28th nationally for undergraduate education, <a href="http://www.annarbor.com/news/university-of-michigan-named-among-top-public-colleges-by-two-rankings/">up a spot from last year. </a></p>

<p>U-M came in as the No. 4 public university, behind the University of California's Berkley and Los Angeles campuses and the University of Virginia. The U.S. News rankings were released Tuesday, Sept. 10. <br />

It's standing room only in some <strong>Ann Arbor Public Schools</strong> classrooms after <a href="http://www.annarbor.com/news/education/by-the-numbers-ann-arbor-public-schools-final-2013-14-budget/">36 teachers were cut</a> for this school year. 

<p>Classes pushing 40 students have resulted in shared desks and standing room only for some subjects at <a href="http://annarbor.com/tag/Pioneer High school/"><strong>Pioneer High School</strong></a>, said <strong>James Svensson</strong>, parent of a freshmen at the school. </p>

<p>"My favorite insect is whichever one I looked at last," she said, chuckling.</p>

<p>To share her passion for nature's smaller creatures, Mertz, a lecturer in the biology department at Eastern Michigan University, helped launch an interactive website, <a href="http://www.knowyourinsects.org" target="_blank">www.knowyourinsects.org</a>, to help Michiganders identify the orders and suborders of insects in the state.<br />

<p>Fundraising campaigns aren't built in a day.</p>

<p><strong><a href="http://umich.edu">University of Michigan</a></strong> unveiled a $200 million gift from New York real estate tycoon <strong>Stephen M. Ross</strong> early Wednesday morning;  and while it took only a few hours for the higher education world to learn of the gift, it took college officials years to work with Ross and secure the contribution.</p>

<p>That's in part because Ross' gift is not only intended to provide funding for scholarships and new and upgraded buildings at the <a href="http://ross.umich.edu"><strong>Stephen M.
