Milan High School held its 2010 graduation ceremonies’ June 6 in the high school gymnasium. The class had 173 graduates.
Jillian Benton
Parents’ name(s): Sharon Benton and David Benton Activities and Awards: Jillian is a member of the School Emergency Response Team, trained to administer CPR and use AED; member of the National Honors Society and Language Club. She played Varsity golf for two years (2008 and 2009 season) for which she received two varsity letters. Jillian had volunteered as a camp counselor at Star Meadow, a camp for disadvantaged children. She has earned the Grand Valley's Award for Excellence scholarship. Plans after graduation: Jillian is planning to attend the Honors College at Grand Valley State University next fall.
Emily Campbell
Parents' Names: Mark and Carole Campbell Activities and Honors: Emily participates in Quiz Bowl, Foreign Language Club, and Chess Club, and a member of the National Honor Society. She was in the school's production of "The Sound of Music" in her sophomore year. She attends a youth group at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Milan and participates in their community service projects such as Rake 'N Run and donating to Aid In Milan. She received scholarships from Eastern Michigan University and Antique Automobile Club of America. Plans after graduation: Emily plans to attend Eastern Michigan University where she was awarded $12,000 in their scholarship competition. She has not chosen a major yet, but is considering civil engineering, psychology, or teaching. She also won a $1000 scholarship from the Antique Automobile Club of America.
Lani N. Ernst
Parents Names: Brian and Liisa Ernst Activities and Honors: Lani participated for four years in Varsity Softball and Basketball Softball: All Region First Team, First Team Huron League, Captain, Scholar Athlete Basketball: First Team Huron League, All Region First Team, Captain, Scholar Athlete Plans after graduation: Lani has been accepted into the Pre-Nursing Program Attending the University of Toledo and will be playing softball for Toledo after receiving a full Athletic Scholarship.
Grant Karr
Parent’s Names: Dale and Mary Karr Activities and Awards: Grant has been active in the Youth Service Project in Appalachia Kentucky every summer; a member of the National Honors Society, Elementary Little Buddy Program, varsity football and baseball, all-state academic baseball, all-state honorable mention academic football. He has been active in Marble Memorial United Methodist Church of Milan as part of their youth group, mission projects and community service programs. Plans after graduation: Grant will be attending University of Michigan in the fall for a degree in Aerospace Engineering and will also seek a Master's degree in the same field.
Jessica F. Leacher
Parent’s names: Betty Rosen-Leacher and John Leacher Activities and Awards: Jessica has been class vice president and class president; a member and president of the Student Council; a member of the National Honor Society; and a School Board Student Representative; Fellowship of Christian Athletes; band; Academic Letter (Honor Roll). Her activities include cross country (captain senior year), track (most improved in track 9th grade - captain senior year); 500-mile club award in cross country in 11th grade; solo & ensemble - state finalist in 12th grade. Jessica participated in the Methodist Youth Group for three years. Plans after graduation: Jessica will attend either Michigan State University or Western Michigan University and is undecided about a major.
Angie Salow
Parents’ name(s): Paul and Kathy Salow Activities and Awards: Angie is a member of Marble Memorial United Methodist Church; 4-H member (numerous awards); Junior Varsity and Varsity cheerleader; honor roll; received the Scholar Athlete Award; Wolverine All Star Competitive Cheer Team; German Exchange Program and student host; member of the National Honor Society; member of the Community Emergency Response Team (teacher/staff nominated) - CPR, AED and First Aid certified. Plans after graduation: Angie plans on attending the University of Michigan to study pre-med.
Jordan Tomecek
Parent's Names: Bradley and Pamela Tomecek Activities and Awards: Jordan has participated in Cross Country- League Champ 2007 and 2008; Regional Champ 2007 and 2008; Division 2 State Champ 2008; 22nd All American at Footlocker Nationals; Academic Allstate 2006, 2007 and 2008. She was Monroe News Runner of Year 2008 and 2009; Ann Arbor News Runner of Year 2008; School Record holder for 5k with time of 17:40; MVP; Captain 2009 Track and Field- League Champ in 1600m and 3200m in 2008 and 2009; Regional Champ in 1600m and 3200m in 2008 and 2009; Division 2 State Champ in 3200m in 2009; School record holder in 3200m with time of 11:07; Academic Allstate 2007, 2008 and 2009; MVP; Monroe News Track and Field Runner of Year 2009. Jordan attends the Milan Free Methodist Church and is an active member of the youth group. She is also a part of the Milan Police Community Advisory Board. Jordan received the Chancellor's Merit Award scholarship and an Athletic Scholarship. Plans after graduation: Jordan plans on attending the Indiana University-Purdue University in Fort Wayne to study music therapy.
