Every week, Ypsilanti school district spokeswoman Emma Jackson sends out a media advisory detailing upcoming events. Here's this week's advisory:
Sow seeds of peace. The YPS Safe Schools Program with assistance from Estabrook Elementary School and the Ypsilanti High School Air Force Jr. ROTC program will plant a Peace Garden. 10 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 7. The group will plant approximately 300 bulbs
on the east side of Estabrook Elementary, 1555 W. Cross St. In addition to the bulbs, flags and symbols of each military branch will be placed in the area. The garden will bloom around Memorial Day, in time to honor our service men and women. Details:

When the rubber hits the road
.be prepared by having the Regional Career Technical Center check your tires. For a donation of $25, students in the Auto Mechanics class will computer balance, check and adjust pressures and rotate the tires. Appointments

Bus Load of Hope! The Ypsilanti Education Association, the Ypsilanti Support Staff Association and YPS administration will again coordinate a district-wide food drive to fill the food bank at Hope Clinic. Students and staff will donate the week of Nov.
9-13 and the community can make non-perishable food donations, 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 14 at the Shadford Field parking lot, adjacent to Ypsilanti High School. Hope Clinic is a non profit that provides medical care and food to uninsured and
low-income families in Washtenaw County. Details: (734) 714-1202
Dollars and cents. Representatives from the University of Michigan will be at the Ypsilanti High School media center, 7 p.m. Nov.10 to discuss and provide tips for filling out FAFSA and other financial aid forms. Information will be helpful to any student

Art appreciation. Erickson Elementary artists will have their work on exhibit during the month of November at the Ypsilanti District Library on Michigan Avenue, Youth Department. All of the artwork was selected by student jurors. An Artist Reception will

Give a hoodie! There’s still time to donate a hoodie for the GEAR-UP and YHS Hoodie Drive. Gently used or new hoodies for at-risk students will be accepted through Nov. 20. Drop donations off at the high school main office, 2095 Packard Rd. For more
