Washtenaw Technical Middle College held its 2010 graduation ceremonies May 16 at Washtenaw Community College, Morris Lawrence Auditorium. The class had 104 graduates.

Sadie Carter

Parents’ name(s): Tammy and Gregory Carter

Activities and awards: Sadie graduated Summa Cum Laude from Washtenaw Community College (WCC) with an Associate of Arts degree in Journalism. She completed 80 college credits while attending Washtenaw Technical Middle College. She has written numerous articles for the Washtenaw Voice and has designed brochures for WCC’s Gay Straight Alliance club.

Plans after graduation: Sadie plans to continue attending WCC in order to complete a second Associate’s degree in Graphic Design. She will then transfer to the College of Creative Studies to further her education.



Lucilla Victoria Chalmer

Activities and awards: Lucilla graduated Summa Cum Laude from Washtenaw Community College with an Associate of Science degree in Math and Science and a certificate in Health Care Foundations. She completed 99 college credits while attending Washtenaw Technical Middle College. She is an active member of Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society. Lucilla traveled to Argentina to work in medical clinics with International Medical Relief, and would like to go on similar trips in the future. In the meantime she volunteers for the Red Cross.

Plans after graduation: Lucilla plans to attend the College of Letters and Science at the University of California Berkeley where she will major in neuroscience.



Charlotte Cialek

Activities and awards: Charlotte graduated Summa Cum Laude from Washtenaw Community College with an Associate of Arts degree in Liberal Arts Transfer and a certificate in Health Care Foundations. She completed 92 college credits while attending Washtenaw Technical Middle College. She has been a tutor at the WCC Writing Center for two years. During summers, she is a counselor and lifeguard at Cole Canoe Base Scout Camp. Charlotte also tap dances at Swing City Dance Studio.

Plans after graduation: Charlotte has earned the Harden Presidential scholarship from Northern Michigan University where she will study biochemistry.



Rebekah Lindstrom

Activities and awards: Rebekah graduated Summa Cum Laude from Washtenaw Community College with an Associate of Arts degree in Liberal Arts Transfer. She completed 88 college credits while attending Washtenaw Technical Middle College. She has been a tutor at WCC's Writing Center for two years. Rebekah studies ballet at Randazzo Dance, has been involved in dance ministry throughout high school, and volunteers with youth and other ministries at St. Luke Lutheran Church.

Plans after graduation: Rebekah plans to attend Hillsdale College in the fall and study English.



Hiba Samaha

Activities and awards: Hiba graduated Summa Cum Laude from Washtenaw Community College with an Associate of Arts degree in Liberal Arts Transfer and a certificate in Health Care Foundations. She completed 79 college credits while attending Washtenaw Technical Middle College. She is an active member of Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society. She also loves to volunteer at the Ypsilanti District Library. She is looking forward to working as a volunteer this summer at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital.

Plans after graduation: Hiba plans on majoring in biochemistry, with a minor in Spanish at Eastern Michigan University. Her dream is to attend medical school to pursue a career in pediatrics or anesthesiology.



Walaa Tout

Activities and awards: Walaa graduated Summa Cum Laude from Washtenaw Community College with an Associate of Applied Science degree in Math and Science Biology/Pre-Medicine and a certificate in Health Care Foundations. She completed 83 college credits while attending Washtenaw Technical Middle College. Walaa is a National Merit Scholarship Finalist. She also is a co-mentor of a local youth group and volunteers at the Ypsilanti District Library.

Plans after graduation: Walaa has been awarded the Chancellor’s Scholarship at the University of Michigan Dearborn were she plans to complete prerequisite courses for medical school.
