More YPS help for Haiti. YHS National Honor Society members are collecting donations through Feb. 12 to aid the relief effort in Haiti. Everyone who makes a contribution will receive a blue wristband to symbolize their generosity. All donations will be given to the American Red Cross. Talent needed for second annual Ypsi Idol. The Ypsilanti High School Cheerleaders will again sponsor a fundraising talent night to benefit the cheerleading program. The event is 6 p.m. Feb. 18 in the YHS auditorium, 2095 Packard Rd., and singing sensations are asked to call Cheer Coach Stacie Richardson. Event advance tickets are $5 and at the door $8. Twenty-five 7th and 8th grade East Middle School band students, under the direction of Tanya Tassin, participated in the Jan. 30 Solo and Ensemble Festival in Livonia. Students receiving a “one” the highest rating were: Skyler Baty, Noah Boyer, Tanaka Chavanduka, D’von Coates, Lynnelle Crutcher, Aubrie Foddrill, Grace Guevara, Sydney Holmes, Chloe Lawrence, Brianna LeFlouria, Karl McAllister, Kate Mull, Shelby Olvera, Damario Patillo, Joe Richie and Evan Sangster. Students receiving a “two” were: Brandy Bargert, April Brewer, Ramon Johnson, Lillie LaMarr, Ryan McGill., Amanda Ossenheimer and John Shelton. The following students from West Middle School, under the direction of band teacher Steven Feltner, reived a one rating: Ben Darnell, John Tramp and Eli Tell and receiving a two: Ryan Snyder. YPS represented at NAAPID at Night event. Ypsilanti High School senior, Monai Hall-Gregory will MC the annual NAAPID at Night event, 6:30 p.m. Feb. 8, hosted by Ann Arbor’s Skyline High School. The YHS Air Force JROTC will post the colors at the start of the event and talents from YPS include Daniel Grimes and Marius House performing a tap dance routine and brothers Brian, Caleb and RJ Roberts will perform a rap. Other school districts participating include: Ann Arbor, Lincoln, Willow Run, Milan and Saline. The event is free and open to the public. Details: (734) 714-1202 Open House. Perry Child Development Center, 550 Perry St., will host an open house 6:30-7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 23. Parents interested in enrolling preschool or kindergarten students in the fall of 2010 are encouraged to visit to tour the building, meet the staff and obtain registration materials.
