Eastern Michigan University Board of Regents meets tomorrow to consider in-state tuition rates for all veterans

By Juliana Keeping

The Eastern Michigan University Board of Regents will consider granting in-state tuition rates to veterans nationwide at the monthly meeting tomorrow.

The regents meet at 3:45 p.m. in Welch Hall.

Among items under consideration:

  • General fund scholarships, awards and grants will likely get a big boost tomorrow for the next academic year. Regents will consider boosting those areas of aid by $4.8 million, to $30.4 million for the 2010-2011 year. The move aims to address financial aid needs of the increased number of enrolled students and a greater need for financial aid generally.
  • The faculty affairs committee, which meets prior to the regents' meeting at 12:45 p.m., will continue its discussion on ways to improve student retention.
  • Veterans from anywhere in the country could attend EMU at in-state rates, under the Vet Connect Award measure under consideration tomorrow.

At the least, the EMU Board of Regents should approve this request and thank veterans for their service to this nation.
