On Friday afternoon, law enforcement authorities along the California-Nevada border carried out the late University of Michigan doctoral graduate from the Cocaine Chute area of the Sierra Nevada mountains.
He was found dead on Thursday, but authorities had difficulty reaching him.
The final cause of death is pending autopsy and toxicology results, according to a release from the Mono County Sheriff’s Department.
Avdeev, who earned his doctorate in geology from U-M in May 2011, disappeared April 19 after heading up into the mountains on a backcountry ski trip.

Writer, Why not tiled the article: Former UM student's body recovered on California mountain or UM Alum. "Ex-student" implies the individual was not successful in completion of his studies.

Why do you keep calling him an "ex-student" when he graduated? That would make him a U-M graduate or alum. "Ex-student" implies he didn't complete his course of study.

I agree when I read this article and assumed he did not graduate from Michigan.
