By AnnArbor.com Staff
Children playing with matches caused a fire in a bedroom at an apartment in the 8800 block of MacArthur Boulevard in Superior Township this evening.
Fire Chief Jim Roberts said the fire started in a second-floor bedroom at about 6:30 p.m. Firefighters extinguished the fire, which damaged one unit.
No one was injured.
Crews were on the scene for more than an hour. A damage estimate was not available this evening.

Jay Thomas... I do understand that other things go on there. Read my comment! Never once did I say that nothing else goes on there. Do you think we do not read or hear the things that go on there??? We all know about the crime that is in that whole area. You and David are comparing this story to the crime that happens there and this has nothing to do with that. This story was not even posted under the crime section, so how can it compare to the crime there? So are you telling me that the house fire in Saline is now a crime because of what happened at the CVS in Saline last week?

Jay, "recently constructed"? The complex was there in 1975. By the way, there was a big fire across from Pioneer and another big fire in Saline. If this was crime reported, I might agree with some of these posts. But it was a fire and that can happen anywhere. While playing with matches is b-a-d, the activity isn't limited to poor kids.

http://www.annarbor.com/news/fire-tonight-displaces-two-at-sycamore-meadow-apartments/ Looks like at least three fires in the last ten months. One fatality. This isn't a big complex. Much smaller than Ann Arbors Braeburn or Park Place.

@tigfan96: MacArthur Blvd is a public housing project (recently constructed compared to the others in Washtenaw county). It represents something like 1% of the population and at the same time the absolute majority of negative news stories for that area. They probably do even have more fires than average... :(

david... This could happen anywhere. This has nothing to do with the other things that go on there. Do you think something like this has only happened on MacArthur Blvd? These were children playing with matches. This happens all over the country. I am not sure what you are getting at. Does this happen a lot on MacArthur Blvd???
