Flooding closes Liberty Road in Scio Township

By Cindy Heflin

Locally heavy rain has closed a Washtenaw County road frequently affected by high water.

The Washtenaw County Road Commission closed Liberty Road between Honey Run Drive and Stags Leap Lane in Scio Township until further notice, a press release said.

University of Michigan meteorologist Dennis Kahlbaum said some areas saw rainfall totals yesterday of an inch or more. Other areas may have had just a sprinkle. "For springtime it's not unusual. you can certainly have a lot of local variation," he said.

The area could be in for more soggy days this week. The National Weather Service said there's a 50 percent chance of thunderstorms after 5 p.m. tonight. Tuesday will be mostly sunny, but the Weather Service says there's a chance of rain every day for the rest of the week.
