Ann Arbor Chronicle: Four Washtenaw County commissioners could vacate seats to seek state office in 2010

The Ann Arbor Chronicle offers a comprehensive roundup today of potential contenders for various elected state offices, including the 18th District state Senate race, as well as House races in the 52nd, 53rd, 54th and 55th districts.

At this point, it's possible four members of the Washtenaw County Board of Commissioners could leave their seats next year for a chance to seek state office - creating open seats on the county board in the November 2010 election.

The four commissioners are Ypsilanti Township Democrat Rolland Sizemore Jr., current chairman of the county board; Jeff Irwin, D-Ann Arbor; Mark Ouimet, R-Scio Township; and Ken Schwartz, D-Scio Township.

As AnnArbor.com reported earlier this week, Irwin has announced his candidacy for the 53rd District House seat in which he'll face off against Ned Staebler.

It appears Ouimet and Schwartz are eyeing the 52nd District seat in the state House, while Sizemore is considering entering the Democratic primary to succeed Alma Wheeler Smith as the 54th District state House representative.
