Freeze! Students planning second annual 'Freeze on the Diag'

By Kellie Woodhouse

Last year an estimated 1,000 University of Michigan students stopped dead in their tracks and froze in place for five minutes as onlookers scratched their heads in confusion.

Planners of 'Freeze on the Diag' are hoping to spawn a similar spectacle this week.

The student leaders of Do Random Acts of Kindness, a U-M group, are encouraging fellow students to go to the Diag on Wednesday afternoon and freeze in place for five minutes starting at 2:33 p.m.

Dozens of colleges have attempted wide-scale freezes, including Penn State University and Michigan State University.

We've posted a video of last year's freeze. Take a look.

Nice participant art. I was always too uptight in college to do something like this. Go, have fun, enjoy it. Who cares what others think? This is as valid an action as most meaningless social gestures we are forced to participate in. Business suits anyone?

"The student leaders of Do Random Acts of Kindness, a U-M group, are encouraging fellow students to go to the Diag on Wednesday afternoon and freeze in place for five minutes starting at 2:33 p.m." this seems potentially counter to "Do Random Acts of Kindness" A thousand people mucking up the flow of pedestrian traffic could result in some students who missed the announcement being late for class or work. I might add, there's not much "random" about Wednesday at 2:33 Lets see how many "vote downs" I get for this one...;)

I know that if I even attempted something like this, 10 second after I began, I would have a terrible itch somewhere.

I am organizing a new movement called "Move". Everybody over 30 years old please move on Tuesday starting at 3:15pm for five minutes! We will show those college students what crazy is!
