Fund set up for new adult tricycle for Dexter teen with autism after theft
There's no word yet on the adult tricycle stolen late last week from a Dexter High School student who has autism.
But after receiving offers for donations, Kim Jones said an account has been set up to help purchase a new trike for her son, Jake Jones.
The account is under the name Jacob R. Jones at the PNC Bank, 8123 Main St., in Dexter.
She said the family has been touched by the support since the trike was taken from the family driveway last week. A neighbor reported seeing two people get out of a white pickup truck and load the trike into the vehicle.
It was taken on trash night last week, and Kim Jones said she hoped to get the word out about the trike in the hopes it might have mistakenly been taken.
"I'm just really shocked," Kim Jones said of the outpouring. "The whole purpose (of getting the word out about the theft) was so the person would see it and come back with the bike and say 'I didn't realized you still wanted this.'"
So far, Kim Jones has not heard of any leads on the trike from police.
The special tricycle is valued at more than $500. It is a cobalt blue Miami Sun trike with a white basket attached to the back. It has a mirror attached to the left handle bar.
Anyone with information about the tricycle is asked to call the Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Department anonymous tip line at 734-973-7711.

There are PNC Banks in Ann Arbor - as long as you have the name they should be able to deposit funds into the account.
