Gasoline prices in Michigan have dropped an average of 23.3 cents a gallon compared to last week, AAA Michigan said today.

The current statewide average is $3.883, $1.175 more than last year, the auto club said.

The Ann Arbor average has fallen about 21 cents per gallon, according to the auto club's figures. Ann Arbor area drivers are paying an average of $3.937 per gallon this week, down from $4.149 the week before. Last year, the average price was $2.754.

The average for self-serve regular fell 24.8 cents in Metro Detroit over the past week, the auto club said, with the average at $3.856 per gallon. The Metro Detroit average is $1.129 per gallon higher than last year at this time.

AAA surveys 2,800 Michigan gas stations daily. For more information, visit www.fuelgaugereport.com. You can find recently updated fuel prices on AAA's website.

Can someone tell me why gas prices in Ypsilanti area are always 15-20 cents less. What's so special about Ann Arbor gas?

Because land is cheaper in Ypsi. If it cost less to lease the land and run the station, they can charge less.

Apparently Shell Oil has chosen not to do business in Ypsilanti, like it does in Whitmore Lake and Ann Arbor. Shell gasoline usually doesn't appear among the cheaper gas stations at annarborgasprices.com, but always among the most expensive ones. I know, Shell in Milan sells gas for lower prices, and often the Shell at Ellsworth and Platt does, but they're exceptions.

Perhaps it's Ann Arbor's freeway ring, comprised of US-23, M-14, and I-94. Freeway driving uses less gas. I've wondered why gasoline costs less in Inkster and Taylor than in the cities east and west of them

Yep, just a'fillin' up the pockets of big oil companies -- the economy will never recover until the "Greedy" corporations who keep purchasing all of the smaller, making competition nil stops.

Why do we allow ourselves to be taken to the cleaners? I drove in 3 states over the last 8 days. No one is paying what we pay for gas in Michigan. The highest prices I saw were at least 40 cents less than what I paid in Michigan earlier this month. Ohio - $3.49; W. Virginia - $3.79; Virginia - $3.31!!!!! Do we have anyone fighting for us or are we just sheep headed for the slaughter?

If you go to annarborgasprices.com/Prices_By_County.aspx, you'll see that South Carolina has the cheapest gasoline. California, New York, Illinois and Connecticut have the most expensive gasoline. Missouri, Arkansas, Louisiana, Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, Tennessee, North Carolina, Mississippi, and Alabama all sell gasoline for over fifty cents less per gallon than Michigan does.

ain't buying no more G.M. cars based on their president suggesting we raise taxes on gasoline. Have bought 11 new G.M. vehicles the past 25 years, no more going forward.
