More snow headed for Ann Arbor: Up to 3 inches expected overnight Friday

By Cindy Heflin

5:30 p.m. update: The National Weather Service has revised its forecast and is now predicting less than half an inch of snow Friday during the day and 1 to 2 inches overnight Friday.

Despite the groundhog’s forecast, winter just won’t go away.

A fast-moving storm system could dump 3 or more inches of snow on the Ann Arbor area Friday and Friday night, the National Weather Service says. And next week will bring a chance of snow showers every day through Tuesday.

The Ann Arbor area is expected to get 1 to 3 inches of snow overnight Friday.

The precipitation could start Friday morning with snow and freezing drizzle. After 1 p.m., forecasters expect snow, possibly mixed with rain. During the day, accumulation will amount to less than one inch, the weather service says. The high temperature will be about 43 degrees.

Snow, possibly mixed with rain, will continue Friday night and will become all snow after midnight, forecasters say. Accumulation of 1 to 3 inches is expected. The chance of precipitation is 90 percent, the weather service said. An overnight low of 26 is expected.

Saturday will bring a mostly cloudy day with a high near 38 degrees. Sunday will be partly sunny with a high near 33.

Snow showers are possible Sunday night and every day through Tuesday.

Fri, Mar 15, 2013 : 2:45 p.m. should really update the headline - especially if it's on page 1 - when the forecast changes so markedly. People don't necessarily feel the need to read a whole article about weather, but they see the headline, and may take the headline as accurate news, which is obviously not so in this case. Seems to me I've seen this situation more than once on

I'm so ready for spring! I want to start my garden! I want to sit outside and complain about the mosquitoes! I guess I shouldn't be surprised. My first husband and I were married in early May. We had several anniversaries with snow on the ground, or cold weather. It is Michigan, after all. Still, bring on the warm weather! I am more than ready.

@Bertha, I refuse to put anything in the ground until Memorial Day or after. I've been burned one too many times.

Fri, Mar 15, 2013 : 1:12 p.m.

Nononononononononnononono! mosquitoes. That was the one good thing about gardening last year...hardly any mosquitoes.

I grew up here, but lived in Virginia for 30 years. We used to plant on April 1st. Here, it's more like the mid-end of May.

Fri, Mar 15, 2013 : 4:13 a.m.

So we get a snow day on what? Saturday? Maybe. All I know is that it has snowed on Easter. Not much but it has snowed. Maybe one more snow day before we head out on spring break. Now that would be nice.

Fri, Mar 15, 2013 : 12:03 a.m.

A forecast of snow is better than last years weather...tornado. I rather be shoveling the drive...than be in the basement listening to my home be destroyed again.

Thu, Mar 14, 2013 : 10:51 p.m.

Don't worry, it will come and go in the blink of an eye, well about 20,000 blinks of an eye. Come on summer.

Thu, Mar 14, 2013 : 9:54 p.m. hype (again) - bet we don't see more than .5 of an inch.

The latest prediction from the National Weather Service predicts slightly less snow than its earlier forecast. It now says we can expect less than half an inch of snow during the day Friday and 1 to 2 inches Friday night.

Cindy, this time of year snow is snow and I think the consensus is, we're all just a little tired of it.

Thu, Mar 14, 2013 : 8:22 p.m.

The title should read "More snow headed for Ann Arbor: Up to 3 crashes expected overnight Friday"

This is why you don't do anything until after April 1. It might snow in April? But rarely. Boy are you guys keyed up to get rid of winter. March is not done with us yet folks. So you better bring out those snow blowers again.

Thu, Mar 14, 2013 : 9:27 p.m.

Ok, we'll blame you and PittsfieldTwp. ;-)

simply amazed

Thu, Mar 14, 2013 : 8:11 p.m.

I learned the hard way, when I first moved to Michigan, that Winter is never really, really, really over until April 7.

Fri, Mar 15, 2013 : 1:13 p.m.

I have seen snow in Ann Arbor in every month except July and August!

Fri, Mar 15, 2013 : 12:17 a.m.

We've had recent history of later snow than that: A2 had 3 inches of snow on April 18th, 2011

Thu, Mar 14, 2013 : 11:40 p.m.

I grew up in AA and it snowed on my birthday once...June 6!

Thu, Mar 14, 2013 : 10:59 p.m.

April snow is "fun" cause you know it will melt away in a few days

Thu, Mar 14, 2013 : 10:10 p.m.

Why April 7th? Because the biggest single day snowfall (for this area) was recorded on April 6th-- Granted that was the 1880's , but an old Detroit news account reported that 24 inches of snow was recorded in 9 or so hours... Prior to this, Detroit (and I suppose Ann Arbor) was experiencing a nice week of spring weather......

Thu, Mar 14, 2013 : 8:07 p.m.

Thu, Mar 14, 2013 : 8:08 p.m.

Don't forget to put the chains and snow tires back on

Thu, Mar 14, 2013 : 7:21 p.m.

Definitely not the same weather pattern as this time last year, when all the climate change activists were claiming doom and gloom on the horizon because of the unseasonably warm weather and Tornado.

Thu, Mar 14, 2013 : 7:04 p.m.

Climate control, OK.

Thu, Mar 14, 2013 : 6:49 p.m.

What this really means? Ann Arbor will get some rain and might see a dusting of snow....

Thu, Mar 14, 2013 : 7:17 p.m.

...Or we will get a foot of snow.

Thu, Mar 14, 2013 : 6:15 p.m.

Question: What happens when over the weekend you drain the gas from your snow blower and put it away for the season? Answer: You get dumped on the next weekend.

Thu, Mar 14, 2013 : 10:58 p.m.

I just drain the gas and forget it..last winter left it in the basement all winter, this winter I just filled it with fresh gas/oil mix and to my surprise it fired right up. My blower is now in the basement also, if it snows, it melt sooner or later, lol

Thu, Mar 14, 2013 : 7:42 p.m.

Great, now I can tell my family it was you and not me this time.

dading dont delete me bro

Thu, Mar 14, 2013 : 7 p.m.

i think i found who's responsible for this...

Thu, Mar 14, 2013 : 6:59 p.m.

Seeing I've been living here all of my life I wait until we have a week in the 60's. did run all of the gas out of it after you drained it didn't you ?

Thu, Mar 14, 2013 : 4:55 p.m.

Remember the St. Patrick's Day snowstorm of about 10 inches in 1973!

No, I wasn't born yet! What I remember is the blissfully warm St. Patrick's Day we had last year- I was wearing capris! Now that's a distant memory. This year I'll be wearing earmuffs.

Thu, Mar 14, 2013 : 7:41 p.m.

Was just thinking about it the other day. Afterwards I also thought "Dang, I'm gettin' old".

Thu, Mar 14, 2013 : 6:17 p.m.

No, because I wasn't born then!

Thu, Mar 14, 2013 : 5:17 p.m.

I remember! I was out taking people to the Chelsea High School on my snowmobile until 3am Sun morning. It was 19 inches.

I heard on Wednesday morning Wayne beat us by not having any trucks out at all. The Lodge was a mess and there more accidents on 696 then ever before. This included 94 and 375.
