Special assessments for yard work attached to 35 Chelsea properties
Some property owners in Chelsea will find bills for yard work performed by the city attached to their 2011 summer tax bills.
Last year, the city had lawns mowed or weeds removed at 35 properties on six streets when the property owners failed to have the work done. The property owners were billed between $480 and $685 for the yard upkeep services but failed to pay.
Recently, the Chelsea City Council approved a resolution to assign delinquent weed, grass and other yard upkeep invoices for 2010 to the 2011 summer tax bills for the properties after failing to collect on the delinquent accounts.
All but one of the properties have been sold to new owners, who now mow and maintain the them, according to city officials, but the delinquent accounts are still attached to the properties.
The total owned the city for the yard work is $17,965 for 17 properties on Fairways Lane, four properties on Parkside Court, three properties on Old Forge Court, 11 properties on Park Lane Road and one property on Jackson Street.
They will be billed as special assessments against the properties on this summer's tax bills, which will be mailed about July 1.
