Green Oak Township police searching for couple after physical confrontation outside Olive Garden

Update: Missing Whitmore Lake woman found injured in northern Michigan; former boyfriend arrested

Green Oak Township police are searching for a woman whose boyfriend forced her into a vehicle following a confrontation outside an Olive Garden restaurant today.

Courtney Beard, 21, is considered an endangered missing person, a police press release said.

Green Oak Township police are trying to locate Brandon Jay Smith and Courtney Beard.

According to police, Brandon Jay Smith, 23, and Beard were involved in a physical confrontation outside the Olive Garden at 6870 Whitmore Lake Road at about 5:19 p.m. today.

Police say Smith then forced Beard into a burgundy 2006 Chevrolet Malibu, license plate number BVR1737, and fled northbound on Whitmore Lake Road toward Lee Road. The vehicle is owned by Smith's grandmother, who lives in Sterling Heights, a press release said.

Smith is currently on probation from a December domestic assault incident involving Beard, police said. The couple has two children together, and the children are accounted for, police said.

Smith has an apartment in South Lyon, police said.

Authorities are asking anyone who knows of their whereabouts to contact police at 810-231-9626 or 517-546-9111.

That is not surprising. Glad that the victim was found safe. Hopefully he will be dealth with more harshly by the system this time and she will avail herself of better protection than that provided by a piece of paper. What a way to start the year.

Courtney has been found in northern Michigan. He is in police custody.
