Greenhills School Top Scholars

Greenhills School held its 2012 graduation ceremonies Sunday, June 3, 3 p.m. on campus. The class included 90 graduates.
Grace Judge
Parents: Bruce Judge and Scotti Parrish
Activities and Awards: Grace was an editor of the Greenhills literary magazine, a volunteer tutor at the Peace Neighborhood Center, and a member of Greenhills’ Darfur Club. She recently did a service trip to Detroit and will be working for the Detroit-based organization “Summer in the City” over the summer.
Plans After Graduation: Grace plans on attending the University of Michigan Honors Program.
Katherine Krauss
Parents: John and Kimberley Krauss
Activities and Awards: Katherine was a member of Cum Laude. She was a state champion in the National French contest, and an AP Scholar with Honors. Katherine participated in theatre during all 4 years of high school, starring in as Kate The Miracle Worker, and as Beatrice in Much Ado About Nothing, in her senior year. She was a member of the forensics team for all four years, wrote theatre reviews for AnnArbor.com and blogged for the Huffington Post.
Plans After Graduation: Katherine will be attending Barnard College.
Katherine Selwa
Activities and Awards: Katherine is a National Merit Finalist and scholarship winner and an AP Scholar with Distinction. She was inducted into the Cum Laude Society as a junior. She works in an immunology and molecular biology lab at the University of Michigan and was a semifinalist in the Intel Science Talent Search based on her research on epigenetic regulation of inflammatory responses. Katherine plays the flute and was a four year participant in the Michigan Youth Band, received highest ratings in Solo and Ensemble regionals and states, was elected three times to All State Band and once to Michigan Youth Arts Festival Honors Orchestra, and was a finalist in the Southeast Michigan Flute Association High School Young Artist competition. She plays tennis and was co-captain of her Science Olympiad team. She tutors at her school and at Peace Neighborhood Center and volunteers regularly at Hope Medical Clinic in Ypsilanti.
Plans After Graduation: Katherine will be attending Harvard in the fall and majoring in molecular biology.
Marissa Thompson
Activities and Awards: Marissa has earned recognition as a National Merit Finalist, National Achievement Finalist and AP Scholar with Distinction, and was inducted into the Cum Laude Society as a junior. She has served as the Student Council vice-president and has been a Greenhills Scholar all four years of high school. Marissa played four years of varsity basketball, and for the basketball team she was the captain, leading scorer and rebounder, and Most Valuable Player her senior year. She also played varsity field hockey for three years, and was named Most Valuable Player in her senior year. She was named to the MIAC All-Conference 1st team for basketball in both her junior and senior seasons, and was an All-State field hockey player in her senior season. She was the captain of the Greenhills forensics team for two years, as well as the MIFA State Champion in Oratory in 2010 and the State Runner-up in Oratory in 2011. Plans After Graduation: Marissa will attend the University of Pennsylvania to major in Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering.
Jeffrey Xu
Parents: Richard ‘Qichun’ Xu and Bridget ‘Qiao’ Li
Activities and Awards: Jeffrey is a member of the Cum Laude Society. He is a senior editor of the Evergreen literary magazine and has won a McDowell Award for his writing. An avid runner and tri-athlete, he would have been a 4-year member of the cross-country and track teams had injury not side-lined him his senior year, during which time he auditioned for the fall play on a whim and played the male lead. Plans After Graduation: Jeffrey will be attending Williams College.
