Greenhills School Top Scholars

Greenhills School will hold its 2013 graduation ceremonies Sunday, June 9, 3 p.m. on campus. The class includes 81 graduates.

Henry Aspegren
Parents: Lucy Braun, Lindsay Aspegren
Activities and Awards: Henry has done research at the Michigan Nanotechnology Institute of Medical and Biological Sciences at the University of Michigan for the past four years under the mentorship of Pascale Leroueil. He is a four-year varsity member and captain of the Greenhills Lacrosse team and captain of the Ann Arbor Hockey Association’s midget team. Henry received the Hoffman award for leadership and sportsmanship from the Hockey Association. Additionally he is co-captain of the National Oceans Science Bowl team, which took 6th place at Nationals in April.
Plans After Graduation: Henry is planning on studying engineering and applied math at Yale.

Nadia Azad
Parents: Saleem Azad and Tharayil Khadeeja
Activities and Awards: Nadia is a member of the Cum Laude Society. She was recognized as an AP Scholar with Distinction and has been a Greenhills Scholar throughout high school. She plays the piano and participated in orchestra as a double bassist all 4 years of high school. Recently, Nadia joined the pit orchestra as the bassist in the school production of “Kiss Me Kate.” In addition, she played on the junior varsity tennis team in her freshman and sophomore years. She serves as vice president of the Middle School Math Tutoring club as well as volunteers at the Ypsilanti District Library.
Plans After Graduation: Nadia will be attending the University of Michigan Honors Program.

John Lazarsfeld
Parents: Robert and Lee Lazarsfeld
Activities and Awards: John is a member of the Cum Laude Society, won the McDowell Writing Award, and is co-editor-in-chief of the school newspaper. He is a member of the Forensics team, earning third place in the state competition. John has been co-captain of his lacrosse team for three years, earned All-State First Team Attack, and was a Rec. & Ed. assistant lacrosse coach. He was a Greenhills Orchestra concertmaster, earned All-State honors, and played in the University of Michigan Youth Symphony Orchestra for four years. He was a marketing intern for the Ann Arbor School for the Performing Arts and taught violin lessons.
Plans After Graduation: John plans to attend Yale.

Davis Vorva
Parents: Joan Crimmins and Jerry Vorva
Activities and Awards: Davis was inducted into the Cum Laude Society his junior year, and was a National Merit Finalist. He was a four-year member of the varsity soccer team, and captain for both his junior and senior years. Davis also participated on the track team his freshman year and the lacrosse team his senior year, in addition to playing club soccer throughout highschool. Davis plays the clarinet, and participated in the Greenhills Orchestra his freshman and sophomore years. Additionally, he participated in math tutoring, soccer refereeing, science Olympiad and student council. He was a member of the Chess team, winning states his freshman year. Davis also worked on designing and producing a radiotracer to detect Osteoporosis at University of Michigan’s Department of Radiology under Dr. Allen Brooks and Dr. Peter Scott.
Plans After Graduation: Davis will be attending University of Michigan-Engineering.

Madison Vorva
Parents: Joan Crimmins and Jerry Vorva
Activities and Awards: Madison is a member of the Cum Laude society. She ran varsity cross country and track her first two years of high school. Besides participation in school athletics, Madison is an intensive dancer and dance teacher. She was honored by the United Nations as a “North American Forest Hero” for her seven year efforts to promote the need for deforestation-free and traceable palm oil in Girl Scout cookies. Madison is an ANNPower fellow through Vital Voices, a women’s leadership program sponsored by ANN Taylor and LOFT. She is also on the National Youth Leadership Council for Roots&Shoots, Dr. Jane Goodall’s organization for young people.
Plans After Graduation: Madison plans on attending Pomona college in the fall.
