Gunman sought in robberies of Ann Arbor Denny's, Circle K

By Sven Gustafson

Ann Arbor police are seeking a lone gunman believed responsible for robberies at a Denny’s and Circle K Saturday night and early Sunday.

No one was hurt in the incidents, which took place within four hours of one another. The suspect in both cases fled on foot with a small amount of cash.

Ann Arbor Police detective Bill Stanford said descriptions of the suspect were the same in both incidents.

“We believe it’s the same individual and are actively seeking him,” he said.

The first incident occurred around 11:10 p.m. at the Denny’s at 3310 Washtenaw Ave., while the second robbery took place around 3:15 a.m. at the Circle K convenience store at 1420 E. Stadium Boulevard.

A manager at Denny’s said none of the crew members working Sunday morning were on hand when the incident took place and declined to comment. A woman who answered the phone at Circle K said she was unable to comment to the press.

The suspect is described as a 6-foot white male, unshaven, wearing a black or gray hoodie, blue jeans and brandishing a black, semi-automatic handgun. He was not wearing a mask in either incident.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call the anonymous tip line at 734-794-6939.

I have a question for the writer...Did you get any reports about the CVS on Washtenaw getting robbed? I am surprised that this event has not been reported on annarbor.com My source told me all about it and wasn't pretty!

This isn't a news source. Like the disbanded police department we have, AA.com takes forever to show up to the party. Imagine living in a city that has a real newspaper. Imagine living in a city that uses tax dollars for real city services, not art.

Do you guys seriously think crime is a problem in Ann Arbor, or surging up? I don't.

Where exactly do you live in Ann Arbor where you feel so unsafe? You people make it sound like you look outside and see a guy running from a bank robbery every week. Ann Arbor has low crime for its size. Lack of patrols? Are you sure you're talking about Ann Arbor and not Ypsilanti? Because Ypsilanti has the problem with lack of patrols. Ann Arbor has plenty of cops patrolling. I'm not sure what to make of people like you, CPLtownie.

I think there has been crime that has gone under reported, yes. But I also concede that due to the lack of patrols, that the opportunistic petty thieves have also upped their game, so yes, crime has gone up, and the nature of the crimes have become more aggressive. So, if you don't think crime is an issue, you must be one of the few holding up the fabled Ann Arbor Bubble.

Hey, but the pedestrian & idling ordinance has certainly cut down the crime rate, hasn't it? Let's all go downtown to view the pretty artwork - Now, if I can only remember if it's my turn to be armed for the field trip downtown...

I heard 6 foot tall, thin build, mixed race with a pock marked face wearing a gray hoodie. Too off toward Platt from Denny's.

Oooh, I can't wait to find out when the perp was paroled. But hey, at least we're saving money on prisons.
