Guns stolen in 2 break-ins near Packard and Golfside

By Paula Gardner

Two break-ins in the same neighborhood in Pittsfield Township on Friday resulted in thefts of firearms, police said.

Those incidents followed a recent larceny from a car that also resulted in the theft of a handgun, police said.

Police are now asking residents of the Clubview neighborhood - which includes homes southwest of the Packard and Golfside area - to be on alert for suspicious people.

They's also asking residents to lock their firearms and not leave them in a vehicle or unsecured in a home.

Anyone with information on the recent thefts should contact Pittsfield Police (734) 822-4911. To report a crime or suspected crime, call 911.

I have plenty of guns in my safe. But if I had to watch tv with one in my lap I think I would move to a different neighborhood! Miserable indeed!

I was on annarbor.com before my walk though the neighborhood with the dogs so I didn't see this story. While I was out a channel 4 reporter and driver/cameraman stopped their van and asked me if I had heard about the recent rash of break-ins in this area. I said I hadn't and they drove on. Darn wish I would have checked annarbor.com just before I left the house at 9:00am, me and the dogs might have gotten on TV.

You must keep your medical weed in a "locked and fully enclosed room" presumably to prevent something or another...but, if you want to leave your deadly toys on your front seat or kitchen table - that's totally cool 'cause the NRA and thier conservative following wouldn't have it any other way!

Do the robbers have to wait 14 days for a background check before they can pick up their fire arms like the rest of us do? Let's pass more gun laws!

Never let the facts stand in the way of a good comment

I'm not aware of Michigan requiring a 14 day background check. You can buy same day of you are willing to do the run around.

Those guns are now in the hands of criminals. Licenses, permits, and safety training mean nothing when you don't lock up the guns adequately.

So tell me, what were handguns designed for, hammering nails?

Guns were not built to murder people. When people use them that way, they are using them for a purpose other than their intended purpose, which is exactly the same as you state about kitchen knives, power tools and baseball bats. We all realize liberals have a problem with people wanting to defend themselves. It's very threatening to them that somebody would want to do that. But we do have that right. You choose not to do so, and that is your right.

Hey Suspect, your comment is suspect. Kitchen knives are made to chop food. Power tools are made to build things. Baseball bats are made for sport. Guns are made for killing things. It's a bit more different than you let on. Following your logic, all tree branches should be kept under lock and key too. No, just things that were designed and perfected over hundreds of years to KILL people, like guns. Duh.

I lock the doors to my house. Therefore, all items within the house are locked.

Usual...If you're not home, why not lock it up? When you get home, turn the alarm back on and arm yourself.

"Adequately" for whom? The owner who would want to use them to defend himself, or an intruder who wouldn't want the owner to be able to access them to use against him? If guns are in a private location where nobody else belongs, such as one's home, they are locked up adequately. Perhaps I should put all my kitchen knives in a safe in my kitchen because somebody could steal them and use them to hurt somebody. And all my dangerous power tools should be locked in a safe on my workbench, because somebody could also steal them and use them to hurt somebody. And all my baseball bats are just sitting in the garage where they could be stolen and then used to hurt somebody. I really should go lock up all all those items "adequately."

Correct! And that does not mean a trigger lock. It means a gun safe. However if these are the type of criminals that would use a gun. I am sure they already have illegal guns in their possession
