Handgun, jewelry taken in Superior Township home invasion

By Kody Klein

A handgun, jewelry, and an undisclosed amount of money were stolen in a Superior Township home invasion Sunday, according to deputies at the Washtenaw County Sheriff's Office.

The invasion took place in a house on the 1500 block of Devon Street between 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.

Deputies believe entrance in to the residence was gained through a rear sliding door, and say there are no suspects at this time.

Safety and protection are two keys to responsible firearm ownership and personal defense. Keep your handguns safe and ready to protect the household with the NRA Secure Vaultâ„¢ Select Handgun Safe. Pre-drilled mounting holes can be used to permanently secure your vault, or for use with cable locks Silly NRA and it's recognition that guns should be secured while in a home!

Why don't people lock up their jewelry in a jewelry safe? The person who allowed them to be stolen needs to be held responsible for whatever crimes are committed with this jewelry 5-10-20 years down the road.

You are blaming the victim here. What if your car were stolen and somebody was killed with it. Would you be responsible "5-10-20 years down the road?"

Pray tell, what would a criminal want or even do with a handgun? We need tougher laws on handguns, like background checks and mental illness exams. Secretly or not, this is just another reason that a non-insignificant number of citizens in this country want to ban you from legally owning a gun, period.

Can you cite the examples of people that "want to ban you from legally owning a gun, period." I know of no such legislation being proposed.

Avoid having your stolen handgun enter the criminal underworld by carrying it with you.

SempterFi....Again,no replyless thumbs down troll here. The article does not say how entry was gained.Just because deputies believe entry was made via a sliding door does not make it so, nor does it say if the door was locked. My guns are always secure. The house gets locked when I'm not home. And I,god forbid taught my kid to never touch my guns without me being there AND I knew who his friends were

I'd love to see a state law requiring all gun owners to pass a common sense test.

Mon, Jan 28, 2013 : 7:25 p.m.

I'd love to see a state law requiring employers to store sidearms on the premises.

You should always keep your gun and ammo locked in a Fire proof safe. Not true, but I just wanted to be the first one to say it

Tue, Jan 29, 2013 : 11:45 p.m.

Speaking for the entire class of liberals (gun owning liberals) I recognize that homes do in fact get broken into. Sometimes those thieves steal guns, sometimes those guns end up being used in other crimes. Recognizing this is reality, not Utopian fantasy land, I keep my guns in a locked safe that significantly reduces the likelihood that they will end up in the wrong hands. Yes, the criminal is at fault, but criminals are a reality (unlike the threat of Obama coming to take my guns:AKA a Myth) so as a responsible gun owner I do what is reasonable to reduce the chance my guns will end up used in a crime.

Tue, Jan 29, 2013 : 9:47 p.m.

@Allen, yes the gun owner has a right to kept his gun out where they can be easily stolen by a criminal

Mon, Jan 28, 2013 : 11:21 p.m.

I'd love to see a liberal actually worry about the criminal element in this. Someone BROKE INTO their home and STOLE the gun. Nothing more needs to be said. The home owner was well within their rights, and the CRIMINAL is the one at fault.

Mon, Jan 28, 2013 : 7:47 p.m.

Right. You should always leave your firearms where they can be easily accessed by minors or break-ins. (sarcastic pause) You should have it on your person or secure it properly. Firearms 101.

I keep mine disassembled, with the ammunition stored separately at my parents house.
