Heat advisory for Ann Arbor area canceled

By Cindy Heflin

Cloud cover in the Ann Arbor area Friday kept temperatures from climbing as high as forecasters predicted, prompting the National Weather Service to cancel a heat advisory.

The weather service had originally said the advisory would be effective through 9 p.m. Saturday.

A combination of cloud cover and low dewpoints kept the heat index from rising above the low 90s, the weather service said. The slightly cooler weather comes after temperatures topped out at 100 in the Ann Arbor area Thursday.

High temperatures near or above 90 are expected to persist through at least Thursday, however.

I suppose its old news after a weeks worth of Ozone Action Days in Ann Arbor, but couldn't we at least get the message printed clearly in large print and maybe which children and adults might be affected on Monday. Sensitive populations are those with asthma, COPD, and other respiratory issues. Maybe you could print the website, with the pretty colored map on Airnow.com so people can see for themselves how Ann Arbor and SE Michigan Air Quality is being affected by the extensive heatwave. Maybe, I just missed the blurb about how we all can help out on OZONE ACTION DAY. Or show people's hats and list Ann Arbor's cooling centers...

Airnow.com ? I think you have the wrong website. That's for a regional air freight carrier.

How do people in the hotter climates do it? I guess it's what you're used to. I know, the next comments will be we better get used to it because of climate change. How about it's just an old fashioned hot spell.

There was an advisory? I must have missed it since I was topping off my fuel tanks in my vehicles and cooking hamburgers on the grill.
