Heavy storms knock out power to 1,000 DTE customers in Washtenaw County

By AnnArbor.com Staff

About 1,000 DTE Energy customers in Washtenaw County are without power this morning following a strong line of thunderstorms that swept across the region Saturday night.

Statewide, some 125,000 customers lost power, with 100,000 still without power by 10 a.m., said DTE spokesman Len Singer.

In Washtenaw County, as many as 2,000 people lost power during the height of the storms. A DTE Energy outage map showed scattered outages in Ann Arbor and Saline, with a larger portion of customers without power along North Dixboro Road north and east of Ann Arbor.

Singer said DTE was calling in extra help from Michigan-based contract crews and said Ohio utilities also may lend support. DTE expects to have a majority of customers' service back up by Sunday night, he said.

Wayne County was the hardest-hit, with some 80,000 people without power.
