High winds Saturday brought down trees and power lines and left thousands without power in Washtenaw County and southeast Michigan.

About 2,000 DTE Energy customers remained without power in Washtenaw County as of about 10 p.m., spokesman John Austerberry said. About 21,000 were still without power in southeast Michigan

Austerberry said about 3,000 Washtenaw County customers were without power at the height of the outage and about 52,000 in southeast Michigan.

Most customers should have service restored sometime Sunday, he said.

Outages in Washtenaw County were scattered mainly to the north and west of Ann Arbor, according to the DTE Energy power outage map.

DTE had called in additional crews in anticipation of the high winds and called in more Saturday, he said.

"We will definitely be working through the night, and we expect to make a lot of progress," Austerberry said.

Ann Arbor police reported a light pole down in the area of Wiltshire Drive and Yeoman Court on the city's southwest side. Police said winds had also brought down a couple of branches in other parts of the city.

Ypsilanti Police and firefighters reported trees, wires and signs had been downed in various areas. A Washtenaw County Sheriff's Office dispatcher said the department had had reports of trees down. A few wires were also reported down in the Dexter area.

The National Weather Service issued a high wind advisory that remains in effect until 6 p.m. Saturday. The wind may make driving difficult, especially for high-profile vehicles, the weather service said.

Most of SW Sylvan, Freedom, Sharon and Manchester Townships are still without power. Naturally, Annarbor.com has no idea. So much for accurate reporting.

I wonder if they're still high (preoccupied with) on the booming agricultural business in Freedom and Manchester townships, which they just reported on yesterday?

I live on Willis Road, August Township and we are without power. We have been out somewhere around 1:30 and DTE isn't giving us any timetable to when we will get the power back. The map didn't sown any sign of power outage for this area.
