By AnnArbor.com Staff

Ann Arbor residents took to the outdoors during the holidays to enjoy some winter sledding.

AnnArbor.com staff photographers were there Friday to capture the fun on film.

Courtney Sacco's Mom and daughter getting air and Daniel Brenner's 3 on the toboggan really catch the moment (and fun).

See anyone going down a sledding hill STANDING all the way? I would expect such a person to be using a snowboard. Last Friday, someone did this at Veterans Memorial Park; I was hundreds of yards away, so I couldn't see what was being used. But no spinning took place, and no coming off the snowboard.

I get the impression from some of the photos that, like the Veterans Memorial Park sledders I watched from the Aldi parking lot last week, that sledders, when 3/4 of the way down the hill, begin to spin, so that they're sledding backwards for part of the last quarter of the way downhill. Sometimes sledders can't stay on their sleds all the way down, but these photos don't give that impression for these particular people. Looks like several luges were used in these photos, but it was easy to imagine someone suggesting that several of these sledders train for the Skeleton event in the Winter Olympics; it's done on ice rather than snow, but like some of these people, Skeleton competitors lie on their stomachs and slide headfirst.

Mr. Brenner, those are some of the most wonderful sledding pictures I have ever seen. You did a fantastic job capturing the joy (and fear) in the faces of the sledders. Bravo to you, please keep up the good work!
