Five people injured in rollover accident that closed I-94 near Chelsea Saturday morning
Eastbound I-94 near Chelsea remains closed due to a one-vehicle rollover accident that occurred this morning and left at least two people in critical condition, according to officials.
The expressway is shut down between Pierce and Kalmbach roads, dispatchers say. It's unclear when the road will be reopened.
Officials said the vehicle was carrying six people and at least five of them were ejected during the accident.
Two of the individuals were airlifted and three were driven to an area hospital. The driver refused medical care, said Chelsea Fire Department Lt. Derek Klink.
Klink said at least two of the people involved were in critical condition.
Motorists are being directed off the expressway at Kalmbach Road, then are directed to head south toward Old US-12 and east to 1-94 East.
Michigan State Police troopers are on the scene. State Police could not immediately be reached for further details.

With all the construction going on west of that dangerous curve, you would think that area of the road would be re-worked, particularly since there is no logical reason for the curve to be there in the first place. When the road was first designed, there was a township park of some sort planned for the property above which the road should have been built eliminating the curve. The curve was put in and the park never built. Multiple accidents every year in that section persists as a result of poor planning design and construction.

At that area of I-94, it seems that the curve does not bank very much at all. And those unfamiliar with the area hit that curve in the rain or ice still going +75mph. Also, this should be a reminder to all that Everyone in a vehicle should buckle up.

What is it about the Chelsea area and 94 that has caused so many accidents over the years?
