Images from Michigan Marching Band practice

By Courtney Sacco

Michigan football season is almost here and we've already seen the team go from media days to practices.

Now, it's time to see how the other stars of Michigan football Saturdays are preparing. AnnArbor.com photographer Courtney Sacco caught up with the Michigan Marching Band on Saturday and captured these images of practice.

The football season kicks off Saturday in Ann Arbor against Central Michigan. Game time is 3:30 p.m.

Ah, this brings back memories. Lots of hard work in the late summer heat while holding an instrument in your hands through the morning, afternoon and evening, for several days straight. But many of my best friends were made in these days of long practices and endless sectionals - 20 years ago now. Here's to those boon companions, and here's to this year's MMB. Can't wait to see you all back in the Big House, performing the best pregame in the world again! :)

We don't have the ability to go to a football game. Where and when could we be in AA on game day and see the marching band? That would make my kids' day! Thanks!

They march from Division and Hoover to the stadium. I cannot remember if it an hour before the game. Contact them through their website - they still have rehearsals at different times this week

Some of the band go through the tailgating area on the A2 Golf and Outing course before the game, most play/practice just out side the east entrance (behind sec. 1) half hour before game, and they practice everyday just off Hill Street. Not sure if they show halftime on TV, but other than that you need to see a game if possible. Great pre-game festivities on field, maybe 20 minutes before game and fantastic halftime show.

Nice photos/story Courtney. One of the things I enjoy in addition to Michigan football is the band and drum corps performing. Most people know how many hours these students spend honing their crafts, getting everything perfect, every step down. You have brought attention to the time and energy spend exercising, stretching, and building muscle for the demanding marching and performance of these students. The marching band is most certainly an athletic team as well, and I hope now many more people realize and respect how they prepare and entertain.
