There's plenty of talent in those orchestras, but without hard work on everyone's part, plus commitment to the music program on the part of the school board, faculty, parents, and the musicians themselves, there would be no concerts such as the one we heard last night. It was stunning!

Bands in Review will be a great event! It is split into two different nights, and this year it is on a Thursday and a Saturday. The Saturday evening performance will be at Pioneer, and the Pioneer Bands are AWESOME!!! If you have younger kids who might be interested in hearing some GREAT bands, this will be a fun thing for them to see. The kids in the Pioneer Bands program have so much fun - hopefully they will inspire younger kids to start or keep playing. I'm sure the same can be said for the bands from Huron and Skyline, but I only know about the Pioneer program, so that's why I am focused on them. As for Orchestra Night, great performances all around! And let's hope that the comments made by the guest conductor resonated with the school board. These are mostly the same folks who easily cut funding to band/choir/orchestra camp just last year. Glad to see that so many of them came out to hear these groups perform. Since the high quality of our music programs attract so many students to AAPS, they should be more supportive of the very programs that they hang their hats on.

Do the bands do a similar type of event sometime during the year? It sounds like it was a great night!

Sorry. Thought you were asking about the orchestras...but yes, bands do too, as I see it's already been noted below :-)

Yes. The orchestras hold various concerts throughout the school year. They should be posted on the AAPS calendars, if not then the respective middle and high schools. It was great that they got to play at Hill Auditorium. It was a beautiful performance!

While I was pleased to see all of the Principles introducing the orchestras last night, I will add that this was unusual for the Tappan Principle, Ms. Jazz Parks. I have never seen her attend a single concert at Tappan or musical. Instead, the Vice Principle, Mr. Weiler attends every performance (choir, orchestra, musical). I suspect having the Superintendent and School Board sitting in the front row might compel a principal to attend this event. The typical Tappan music event doesn't attract such people of importance. Of course, the typical Tappan concert does have a full auditorium of families. I would think that would be compelling enough for a Principal to support their own school. As a parent I do notice these things so let me at least applaud the Vice Principal, Mr. Weiler, who seems to understand what supporting the music program is all about.

This concert was fantastic. Michael Adelson, guest conductor, said the A2 school music program with staff and students was a "jewel" and he is right. We moved here from California where Proposition 13 decimated the music program years ago. We should not let this happen in A2. It was a pleasure to see the School Superintendent and the School Board right in the first row of the Mezzanine. I applaud their commitment. I applaud the Principles from each school introducing their own school programs.

Excellent. I was in the Detroit Cass Tech Chamber Orchestra in high school and it was one of the best experiences of my life. Thanks for the pictures, Courtney. Looks like it was a great night.

Orchestra Night was an evening of spirited performances and outstanding musicianship displayed by players in all of orchestras. Bravo! And three cheers for the dedication of the music educators at AAPS!

I can't get the images to appear. There seems to be a problem with this particular set in the gallery. It was a great night for the A2 schools music program. Pioneer High's guest conductor, from the New York Philharmonic, said that he had never seen a program as wonderful as this. He told the audience,"You have a jewel here. Please treasure it."

My husband came home from the performance last night and told me the same story. I'm happy to see that the guest conductor's comment resonated with the crowd!

Sorry about that Dorothy looks like there was a weird glitch in the system, it should be fixed now.
