University of Michigan staffer helped save others in front row during Indiana State Fair stage collapse

By Juliana Keeping

A University of Michigan employee in the front row of the Indiana State Fair stage collapse on Aug. 13 said he tapped his job experience to save his life.

Richard Lindsay, of Tecumseh, is a technical director with University Productions. He and his wife, Annissa Morgensen-Lindsay, were in the front row of the Sugarland concert when high winds caused the stage to collapse, he told the University Record, a campus publication.

His experience in theater prompted him to move quickly to a concrete wall that abutted the stage, he told the Record. He told those around him to do the same.

As the stage collapsed, the small group formed “a little pocket of safety," he told the Record.

He and his wife escaped with just strains and bruises, he told the Record.

Richard, great job. How long until Ann Arbor petitions for a spot in the Top 10 Cities With People Helping During Indiana State Fair State Collapse list?

Yeah his experience in theater allowed him the common sense to move toward the brick wall. Sounds like quite the hero.
