Intersection improvements planned at Carpenter-Willis roads in York Township
Road construction is set to begin at the Carpenter-Willis road intersection in York Township next month, and the Washtenaw County Road Commission has scheduled a meeting to discuss the project.
The meeting will take place from 6:30-8 p.m. July 29 at the York Township Hall, 11560 Stony Creek Road.
The proposed intersection improvements consist of left-turn lanes on all approaches, a right-turn lane for eastbound Willis Road, and installing a traffic signal. Concrete curb and gutter and storm sewer also will be added at the intersection.
The project will be constructed in two phases. The first will be limited to Willis Road and will require closing the road both east and west of Carpenter Road.
Road commission officials say Carpenter Road will remain open to traffic through the intersection, but drivers can't turn onto Willis Road. That closure will last a maximum of two weeks, and a detour route will be posted.
The second phase will focus on Carpenter Road. The road will remain open, but daytime lane closures may be necessary and delays are expected.
The project is slated to begin Aug. 9 and be completed by mid-October.
The public meeting next week will include a presentation at 6:30 p.m., followed by an open house.

What a waste of money. There is so little traffic, why are they bothering? Instead, they should work on Carpenter between Washtenaw and Packard.
