Investigation continues into fatal car-pedestrian accident
The Pittsfield Township police accident investigation team continues to interview witnesses after a 59-year-old Ypsilanti Township woman died Thursday from injuries suffered when she was hit by a car.
Pittsfield Township Deputy Police Chief Gordy Schick said Friday there aren’t many new details to release on the crash. He said the woman was walking west across the road, but Schick wasn’t sure if she was in a crosswalk or not.
“I’m not sure where the traffic signals were. We’re still trying to figure that out,” he said.
The woman died from her injuries after being taken to St. Joseph Mercy Ann Arbor Hospital. Emergency crews were sent to Golfside Drive north of Washtenaw Avenue at 5:53 p.m. Thursday. Police confirmed the woman had died just before 7:30 p.m.
It’s unclear at this point if the driver of the red Toyota sedan that struck the woman was breaking any laws or was at fault for the crash.
No one was arrested at the scene of the crash Thursday. Schick said the woman’s son had been notified of her death, but he did not release the woman’s name Friday afternoon.
