Items stolen from vehicles parked at Wideworld Sports Center in recent days, police say
Police are warning residents to lock their car doors and hide their belongings in the parking lot of Wideworld Sports Center following two incidents in recent days.
Washtenaw County sheriff's deputies say items were stolen from an unlocked vehicle there Saturday, and a window was smashed on another vehicle Tuesday that had valuables in plain view.
The indoor sports facility is located at 2140 Oak Valley Drive, near the intersection of Scio Church Road, in Lodi Township.
Sheriff's deputies urged people to take their valuables, such as purses and GPS units, into the facility with them. Extra patrols also are planned in the area, police said.

Call it paranoia BUT I always lock my stuff up! My husband gets upset when he tries getting into something and it's LOCKED! Well honey this is why. You think the best places to live are where things DON'T happen, guess what they DO! This is coming from someone who moved away from one of the most high crime area... NEW YORK CITY! So for all u naive people out there with your rosy colored glasses, wipe them clean and start locking your things up we work much too hard for someone to take it. Stay safe and let's continue to help the police fight half the battle! Also remember those are OUR tax dollars too!

Actually nothing has been taken in the locker rooms since last year. The surmise is that certain people who know certain peoples habit have been stealing from others. I haven't heard anything recently. Fingers crossed the bandit has moved on. I also think diligence is another key factor.

This last summer, in the middle of the day - a weekday - a car was smashed into that was sitting in the Red Lobster parking lot on Carpenter Rd. This vehicle was in plain sight, on the side, but the first spot toward the front. Keep your valuables with you, or completely out of sight. At the Cube do not leave your things unattended in the locker rooms either!

The ice cube is also warning visitors to lock everything up and out of site. If they do not have a trunk to cover and hide. I do know that Cantons Arctic Edge is warning their people to do the same thing. Freaked me out when I heard this because you don't hear of smash and grab in Canton. On the opening nite of Flipped? My husband parked near a car that was smashed and grabbed. Police where there but as you walked in you were told to make sure things where locked up. Surprised this was not mentioned by Ann Arbor News. No big surprise here. With the way the economy is today? People are disparate.
