Golly, if only we could listen to those wonderful, prophetic leaders of the lunatic right. Rush, Sean, Laura, Ann, Savage, X, and the half term governor and winner of the Iquitarod we would all be so enlightened! Can we discuss Sen John Ensign and mistresses? Oh, only Dems. I get it. JJ was once relevant and while you can condemn his personal life, lets hold your heroes up to the same scrutiny! How does that abstinence education work? Just one phony example of hypocrisy! Perpetual War Profiteering for Jesus another. Property rights and freedom of religion, unless you are Muslim! I could go on and on and on..........

jcj, And every tv and radio commentator on the air anymore. God I miss Walter Cronkite! But obviously people listen or they wouldn't be there! People do get paid to talk if there are people who will listen, obviously. (Not me!) But yes, for anyone my age, the impact of the non-violent civil rights leaders is unmistakable and Jackson was a part of it.For people my age, it was truly life-altering. I remember well how MLK was hated and more than anything feared. He was going to take over the country, people said. People were scared to death of him. And now he has a national holiday in his honor and in most circles his name is respected. Looking back on a long life, I am amazed at how things have changed....and more amazed at how things have not changed.

@Cash I agree to this extent. Jessie Jackson WAS an important part of the civil rights movement. As to the following I would add to the list "I'm guessing that professional blowhard is now an occupation." Jessie Jackson, Rachel Maddow, Kieth Olbermann, Bill O'Reilly, Al Gore and maybe worst of all Chris Matthews.

sbuilder, They are marching for entitlements, govt. handouts and public works projects. Redistribution of income is on the plate. Something I am strongly against... what is the point of working if I have to share it with somebody who did not goto school (like I did), did not invest money in themselves (like I did), is not in demand (like I am)...and in many cases is just plain lazy(yes lazy)

The AnnouncerMan007, "There is an agenda here. Secret? No. I wanted folks to THINK in my last post. It is OBVIOUS what he is doing here. Is he muslim? Where was he born? I could care less. jackson has never been part of the solution, only the problem." I would have to respectfully disagree that "jackson has never been part of the solution, only part of the problem". I'm going to assume you are younger than I, but having reached maturity in the early 1960s, I remember black people not being allowed to vote and not allowed to drink from the "white" water fountain, or sitting at the lunch counter.......I remember Jackson marching with Dr King, Rev Lowry,John Lewis, Rev Abernathy and others. In fact, he was marching in Memphis and was with Dr King when he was murdered. But this group of black leaders was beaten, jailed and never raised a fist....to get voting rights for black Americans, among other things. He also has negotiated and won the release of political prisoners, both for Ronald Reagan and for Clinton. Is Jackson insignificant today? To me he is. To me he is also arrogant and self-promoting. He has lost his focus. But I disagree that he never was part of the solution. There was a time when this nation needed change badly. There were people brave enough to step up and make peaceful change. He was among those men.

How many of his most strident critics speaking up here in the peanut gallery were conscientious enough to attend one of these events today? How many stood up to bravely challenge the Rev. Jackson in person and make themselves heard? How did he respond when these critics raised righteous voices in principled defense of their corporate masters, as virtuously represented by interest groups like the Mackinac Center and GLEP? Did he tremble when faced with such determined opposition in his presence?

This whole marching business has me all confused. Back in the day, we had marches to confront racial issues because there was still hard core overt racism. We had marches to confront the Vietnam War because there were folks that thought that we should send our youth to the meat grinder. But now we are marching...... for what? Are there businesses that just plain refuse to hire workers? Is there a movement afoot to keep job seekers from getting jobs? Where, or what, is the resistance on the other side? So, OK, let's march march march. Still not sure what jobs will be created.

@monicaRW--- Debbie stabenows bills will hurt job creation--much like obama policies have. No one needs to attend to have more of their jobs moved oversees. Let's not confuse things --it is capitalism that makes this country great -- It is why we are the most powerful country the world has ever know -- and the most generous country in the world. Just need a few more conservatives in office (November is coming-- Go Rick!) and we will turn this bad Obama economy around (remember 1994 and 1983). Go AMERICA! No Socialism!

@dadding. From what I can gather his trip was planned before the man died last weekend. But the trip was planned after the WR case of reverse discrimination and after the incident in AA with madison. @cash. There is an agenda here. Secret? No. I wanted folks to THINK in my last post. It is OBVIOUS what he is doing here. Is he muslim? Where was he born? I could care less. jackson has never been part of the solution, only the problem.

here goes the democrats dodging responsibility again. blaming everything on the republicans before they were in office. they couldn't get it done, so who can we blame. where's mr.something ghost now? curious, was mr. jessie jackson's visit planned before or after the taser death in superior township? (i'm just asking for a time frame)

Laughable people seem to fear Rev Jackson coming through Michigan. Secret agenda? Gosh do you think he might be Muslim? Where was he born? Good grief. If he knocks on your door, don't answer. Otherwise he's probably not going to scare you.

yeah, he has the right to speak. Just wish a new generation of black people would step up and take over the airwaves that JJ and Al have been filling up for too long. I think they both are trying way too hard to keep themselves relevant rather than the issues they go on about.

He does, ABSOLUTELY, have the right to speak. But no one with 1/2 a clue will listen to his rhetoric. It is also pretty funny last week I called this. I said Sharpton and Jackson would be flying in (first class of course) just to cause a ruckus. Lots and lots of things going on here in SE Michigan.......He has listed what his PUBLIC agenda is, but privately?

I hope he will have time to pay a visit to Dicken Elementary--i'm sure while he is on his speaking tour he will want to denounce the lunch bunch, for the sake of peace and justice.

In 1984, Jackson ran for the Democratic nomination for President against Hart and Mondale. At the time, he showed himself to be thoughtful, insightful and articulate. The shame of it is that he has devolved into an irrelevant windbag and a 2 bit hustler.

So funny that people so critical of Jesse Jackson, saying he doesn't work for his money, applaud Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity. I'm guessing that professional blowhard is now an occupation. And this is Obama's economy? That's hilarious. He got elected based on the failure of Bush and handed an eight year Republican economy. And how odd President Obama got mentioned in an article about Jesse Jackson.

I wonder if he realizes that we need jobs to be created in the private sector and not by government stimulus IE taxpayer dollars. We can't rebuild anything if we allow the government to continue to keep ruining things and then letting them tax us for their boneheaded mistakes.

He certainly has a right to speak. And as long as he is not being paid with public funds I could care less about this carpet bagging fraud! Let the gullible keep paying him. Heck there are idiots out there that would pay to hear anyone speak.
