Man accused of breaking into Jimmy John's restaurants in Ann Arbor

By Lee Higgins

A former employee is accused of committing a total of four break-ins at two Jimmy John's restaurants between May 10 and Monday, Ann Arbor police said.

Mark Hunter, 19, of Pittsfield Township is charged with four counts of breaking and entering at a business, police said.

He is accused of breaking into the Jimmy John's at 2615 Plymouth Road overnight May 10 and overnight May 16, police said. Hunter also is accused of breaking into the Jimmy John's at 3365 Washtenaw Avenue overnight May 13 and overnight May 16.

In each case, police say Hunter used an object to break out the glass on the front door, then stole cash from the register. He was identified through surveillance video at a business nearby the Jimmy John's on Plymouth Road.

Hunter was arrested during a traffic stop Monday, police said. He is at the Washtenaw County Jail, being held on $12,500 bond.

I talked to my friend who works at the Plymouth Rd. store today and he said Mark Hunter is an older male (late 30s to 40s), and the Packard store was hit in this string.

@ Malorie, hmm, been there done that! That's why I went back to school and ultimately earned an advanced degree in booming field which in turn allows me to have JJ's for lunch... everyday. :)

David - I lived on minimum wage for years. It hurts and it's very stressful...but it never drove me to rob a former employer or anyone else. This kid does not represent the working poor, and at age 19 was more likely stealing out of spite for being fired and greed than to pay the rent. Of all the jobs I've held, JJ's had the most opportunity for advancement and gave raises every 6 months to all employees, plus a "bonus raise" to one outstanding employee in every store.

Minimum wage has a tendency of upsetting the working poor, go figure?

When I worked at JJ's they left the drawers open because the $300 in the till was worth less than the cash register itself (if the drawer was closed, the thief would have to destroy or steal the register).

Interesting pattern of every three days. I'm assuming there is only around $200 in cash in the registers. Was he trying to get caught?

I eat frequently at the Plymouth Road location - they have great employees there. Glad they caught this one.
