Man airlifted to University of Michigan Hospital after crash in Scio Township
A man was airlifted to the University of Michigan Hospital this morning after the pickup truck he was driving was struck by a garbage truck on Baker Road in Scio Township, Washtenaw County sheriff's deputies said.
The man had to be extricated from the vehicle after the 11 a.m. collision, sheriff's department spokesman Derrick Jackson said. The driver of the garbage truck suffered minor injuries, but was not hospitalized, Jackson said.
The garbage truck was traveling south on Baker Road when it struck the driver's side of the pickup truck, which was pulling out of a gas station to travel in the same direction, Jackson said.
The accident remains under investigation, Jackson said. So far, no citations have been issued.

You know it can't be good if you are getting a ride from Survival Flight and you're only a few miles away, thank goodness they were there.

So the pickup truck driver was turning RIGHT and got hit anyway. Was the garbage truck driver sitting too high to see the other vehicle, or did the pickup truck driver pull out onto Baker before the garbage truck driver could slow down enough to avoid hitting him?
