Ann Arbor man arrested after attempted robbery in Ypsilanti

By Lee Higgins

An Ann Arbor man was arrested this morning after police say he assaulted a woman during an attempted robbery in the 300 block of North Normal Street in Ypsilanti.

The 22-year-old victim suffered minor injuries after fighting the 40-year-old man off about 10:30 a.m., the release said. At one point, the man attempted to drag her into her home, the release said.

Officers responded after receiving a report of a woman screaming, the release said.

Police arrested the man after finding him underneath a car several blocks away.

Thanks ricebrnr. What we found out is the perp has 20 different aliases when you pull him up on OTIS and was recently paroled in November 2009. Be safe, be aware and get involved; please don't look the other way.

@ MOM, My sympathies but if your daughter gave as good as she got, then while she may be in shock as with the incident itself, this criminal can take nothing from her she isn't willing to give up. I would highly recommend once she is sufficiently recovered that you both get some OC aka Pepper Spray and training in its use. This is a very effective and relatively inexpensive self defense option. Following that you all may consider getting a concealed carry license and training for when OC is not the best defense. Both of those recommendations should help her in the long term regain her confidence and maintain her safety. I would be happy to make some recommendations for more information if anyone is interested. Just remember the sad truth is only YOU can be responsible for YOUR safety everywhere and all the time. The first responder in a crime against YOU is ALWAYS YOU. Be well.

This low-life should be put away for a long time. What if the neighbor had not heard the screams---or what if she hadn't/couldn't screamed? This young woman, and the neighbors, are to be commended for fighting back, for getting involved, and for not letting yet another criminal walk away unscathed to attack again another day. Court system---we'll be watching!!!! And to "Mom"----hang in there. Your daughter is stronger than you think.....I'll be praying for all of you.

I am the mom of the victim. I would like to know his name. I am waiting on this information as he faked illness when he was arrested after he beat my daughter. I would like to thank Tracy who heard her screams for calling the police; I also would like to thank the young man who "got involved" and identified him. My daughter now does not want to sleep or return to her apartment, she is in a state of shock. She fought him as hard as he gave it. She offered him all of her belongings and he still beat her. She is courageous. He took something from her that can't be returned. Thank you again for those who got involved to help my daughter. Be safe and don't look the other way; this could happen to your loved one.

I agree with serfergerl, if the perp has been aprehended im sure there is a mug shot of him that you could post. If this guy gets released on bond I would like to have a face I could look out for.

At what point do we get a photo of this guy? I want to know what a person who does this looks like so I can avoid them. This is my neighborhood.
