Man arrested after injuring hand during Ypsilanti Township break-in, deputies say
A Pontiac teenager who seriously injured his hand during a break-in at an Ypsilanti Township home Dec. 30 was arrested Monday, Washtenaw County sheriff's deputies said.
The 17-year-old was arrested after being released from St. Joseph Mercy Hospital, where he was being treated for a cut to his hand, a sheriff's department incident summary said.
He initially claimed he was stabbed, but investigators determined after interviewing him Dec. 31 he was injured leaving an Onondaga Street home through a broken sliding glass door, the summary said.
Cash, alcohol, jewelry and a video game system were stolen during the 9:10 p.m. burglary, the summary said. The incident occurred in the street's 500 block.
Someone kicked in the front door to get inside and broke a sliding glass door to get out, the summary said.
