Man arrested in Ypsilanti for taking hug way too far, police say

By Tina Reed

A 29-year-old man was arrested in Ypsilanti Thursday afternoon after a woman said he hugged her and then tried to fondle her.

The 29-year-old Ypsilanti woman was in a building in the 200 block of West Michigan Avenue and began to talk to the man, who she didn't know.

After talking briefly, the woman said the man stood up and hugged her. While he was doing so, he tried to put his hands down the back of her pants, police said.

The woman stopped him and quickly left the building, but the man followed her and attempted to approach her again, police said. She told him to stay away and called police.

The man was arrested without incident and was taken to jail.

He is on probation for an identical crime in the same building in 2009.

@Malorie and all...it is unfortunate but as a woman this does happen a lot! most of the time it is so suttle you don't know it has happended until that gross feeling comes over you...did that guy just touch...what??? why would someone do that?? I can't say that I have experienced what this woman has, but I have had men brush up against me in very uncomfortable ways..not to mention the butt pinch when you are in a crowd of people!

djm - I did say strangers, not associates. :) It happens to a lot of women on the bus (AATA) and at bus stops.

@Malorie "Every time it's happened to me (not the exact same circumstances, but being touched in some inappropriate way by a stranger) the guy was drunk or mentally ill. I just can't tell if that means drunk/mentally ill guys are more likely to touch strangers, or if it just says something about me. =/" Wrong on too many levels.

So, did no one in the judicial or probation system instruct him from not returning to that building? If this place is a business, why wasn't an order or no trespass written? Sumbunny dropped the ball on this one. Just glad for the vic, the "alleged" perp hasn't escalated his actions...yet.

I hope we can possibly get a name or maybe even a photo because this guy will probably be back on the streets within days.
