Man arrested today after fleeing from Ypsilanti police

By Lee Higgins

A 21-year-old Ypsilanti man was arrested this morning after he led police on a short vehicle pursuit, then ditched his car and ran, an Ypsilanti police news release said.

Officers received a tip that the man, who was wanted on warrants, was in the 600 block of Armstrong Drive at about 4:30 a.m., the release said.

The man led police on a pursuit on I-94 west for a couple exits, then ditched his 2005 Toyota Echo at Exit 181 and ran, the release said.

According to the release, Washtenaw County sheriff's deputies spotted him an hour later, and he was arrested.

The outstanding warrants were for offenses involving weapons and fleeing from police, the release said.

No other details were immediately available this morning.

I am surprised they pursued him at all! These officers will probably be reprimanded! And heaven forbid if he would have fallen and hurt himself while running away! The politically correct thing to do would be to send a note to his parents asking that he turn himself in.

@uawisok: If the police were outrun, the suspect wouldn't have had to ditch his vehicle and attempt to escape on foot. Let's see you safely stop someone who is desperately trying to escape from you in a car!
