Man dies after motorcycle crash in Scio Township
A man died this afternoon after a motorcycle accident in Scio Township, fire officials said.
The 21-year-old Scio Township man was traveling on West Huron River Drive west of East Delhi Road at a high rate of speed about 1:26 p.m. when he lost control, authorities said.
The motorcycle went off the road and rider was ejected, landing on the road, Washtenaw County Sheriff's Department spokesman Derrick Jackson said.
Jackson said he did not know which direction the man was traveling. The man was taken by ambulance to the University of Michigan Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
Authorities have not released his name, pending notification of family members.
Investigators say the man was wearing a helmet.

There is ALWAYS gravel on that section of road. Very treacherous for motorcycles. The road commission should consider paving part way up N. Delhi to keep the stones off of HRD.

My husband and I were absolutely devistated to hear about the loss. He was/is and always will be my husbands best friend. Him and Mags have had such and amazing effect on our lives. He will be forever missed. His family and Mags are in our prayers and we will always be here for them. He was such an amazing person and never had a bad thing to say about anything. The perfect friend.

To the family of this young man ( especially his parents ), we are very sorry for your loss and hope that the memories of your son can bring you some peace as time moves forward. As a parent, I feel your pain. All of us want to pass on before any of our children. Please take care, there are a lot of us keeping you in our prayers and thoughts.

This is quite sad. I hear speeding motorcycles travel down a long straight stretch of this portion of Huron River Dr. often (just did last night). I hope people on their bikes learn from this and slowdown. There are many bikers and runners that are out on this road as well!

I was puzzled as to where this was until I read Chip's correction. I found it useful and not at all disrespectful of the magnitude of the tragedy, which is what I assume you were implying was the case. It seems that there have been more motorcycle accidents this season than usual.

Condolences to the family for their loss. Any reports on what happened? Huron River Dr is a smooth, mild ride at the speed limit. Regardless, it's terrible someone lost their life.

Tesla, I rode HRD on Sunday and Tuesday on my bike. It is very forgiving and mild if you go the speed limit or less. Note the updated story now as well referring to a high rate of speed. Makes sense.

@Tesla HDR is tame for a motorcycle, hardly "unforgiving".

It's a winding road that is very unforgiving. No room for error.
