Man hits 3-year-old on scooter in Superior Township and leaves scene, deputies say
A man was arrested Sunday after Washtenaw County sheriff's deputies say he backed a car into a 3-year-old girl on a scooter in a parking lot on MacArthur Boulevard in Superior Township and left the scene.
The girl, who suffered some scrapes and bruises, was taken by ambulance to St. Joseph Mercy Hospital for evaluation after the 8:40 p.m. incident, sheriff's department spokesman Derrick Jackson said.
Jackson said deputies followed the 19-year-old man's car after being flagged down by bystanders in the 9000 block of MacArthur Boulevard. The man did not initially pull over for deputies, Jackson said.
The man was expected to be arraigned on criminal charges this afternoon.

I agree with those that are wondering where the adult supervision was. Whoever is responsible for that child should also be put on the spot. No excuse for the driver, but the adult in charge of the child has some splainin' to do!

What is a 3 year old doing out in a parking lot at 8:40pm unsupervised? That driver made things 1000 times worse for himself by fleeing.

My understanding is this particular neighborhood isn't a good neighborhood for children to be riding around on a scooter to begin with.

So he's guilty until proven innocent? Here's hoping he gets a good lawyer to protect him against the lynch mob.

Scott Hadley, yes, they are. Which is why it's up to adults to keep an eye out for small ones whenever they're driving in an area where there are kids. So, no excuses. And REALLY no excuse for leaving the scene. Hitting the child is one thing - an accident, it can happen. Leaving the scene and then not pulling over for the deputies right away? No excuse. None, zero, zip, nada.

No excuses? What's a three year old doing on a scooter in a parking lot? Maybe the diver didn't even know the kid was there. Three year olds move fast and are low to the ground.

NO WAY!!! Not on MacArthur Blvd. The gentleman is probably innocent and he needed to get to his night classes at U-M.

I'm so thankful the little girl wasn't seriously injured.
